  1. [[ASIN:B000MRM47I Babylon Handheld Hebrew-English Dictionary is a perfect learning tool,I recommend it to any person interested in Hebrew language. Unfortunately the dots "Dagesh" are missing, it gives some difficulty of pronounciation to a person unfamiliar with the language. As for the promptness of delivery of the product by Hebrew World, it is excellent.Chakee Djiladjian, Mississauga, Canada.

  2. While it doesn’t translate every sentence correctly, it is very good at helping recognize verbs(when you don’t know all the tenses). Also, when using a program like Davka Dikduk–you can put in words you don’t know and learn genders. I’d recommend it if you’re serious about learning Hebrew.

  3. This product was made for Hebrew speakers to learn English and not vice versa. Will help greatly with finding words from texts. No help at all with hebrew pronunciation. If u r going to Israel u can buy this in the duty free(Stematzky) for around $125 dollars (423nis). Hope this helps.

  4. I bought this when my family was going to Israel to help us with the language instead of a 3 volume Hebrew-English (Alkalai)dictionary. My husband was skeptical that the Babylon would be of much use, but we couldn’t pack so many pounds of dictionary into our suitcase.

Now, 6 months later, we feel it is a wonderful item. We use it many times daily. We are both in Hebrew classes – it has been useful for both advanced beginners and high level intermediate speakers. Our teacher’s even ask us to use it to check on meanings. It is easy to use and our children use it as well to help with homework.

By the way, after a month of classes, and the two of us fighting over who got to keep the Babylon with them, we bought a second one. I wouldn’t mind having more around as it is a constantly used item. It is well made, fairly sturdy, and compact. One added advantage is it gets us used to the Hebrew keyboard and it is faster than using a book-type dictionary. It also contains much more than most dictionaries other people have in class and it is quite thorough.

Unfortunately, it does not have vowels, so it makes it harder for people to know the pronunciation, but beyond that it is just wonderful. In the end we both felt it was well worth the price, really it has been invaluable for us. Hebrew World also did a great job of getting it to us before our flight as it was a spur of the moment decision to purchase it.

  5. This is a very helpful and complete electronic dictionary for reading or writing Hebrew. Words are easy to find, it has a very broad array of phrases, flips between primary Hebrew and English easily, it’s pretty simple to operate and read, is small and quite portable, and runs forever on a battery. Cross-checking for nuances of meaning is easy and thorough. I appreciate that it lists gender of nouns, but it does not automatically give alternate genders of adjectives — you can enter what you think it might be in Hebrew, and if it doesn’t find the right word, you know to try another ending, so indirectly you can even do that. It does not have any transliteration capacity, however, so it cannot help you with pronunciation. (I gather you have to sacrifice scope when you add transliteration.) A valuable tool — I use it a lot learning Hebrew.
